Wallingford Coop is proud to offer our students creative dance instruction every other week.
Angelica DeLashmette is a dance artist and teaching artist who currently resides in Seattle, WA where she is performing, teaching, creating work and producing. She received her BA in Dance from Brigham Young University and while there she had the opportunity to tour nationally and internationally. DeLashmette’s work has been seen at The Pocket Theater, The Annex Theatre, The Broadway Performance Hall, The Meany Studio Theater at the daCi USA 2014 National Conference at the University of Washington, and Velocity Founders Theater (Seattle, WA).
She was the producer of enROOT (2014) a dance concert that premiered nine new works by local Seattle dance artists. She is currently undertaking her next collaborative production and will premiere her first evening length work in the Spring of 2016 at Velocity in Seattle, WA. Angelica has been on faculty at The Creative Dance Center founded by Anne Green Gilbert since 2013. She is currently also on faculty at the Washington School of Dance and she teaches in the Seattle community for preschools and public schools. As a Contemporary artist, DeLashmette seeks to create gripping and relevant work for audiences that provoke internal dialogue and inquiry for the viewer.
As a dance educator, her teaching philosophy encompasses a holistic approach that develops each student into a complete artist as a skilled technician, critical thinker, collaborator, and creator. She believes in offering a full body, spirit, and mind experience, which involves being engaged in the creative process, sharing, seeing, and responding. She believes in creating a supportive community and a safe learning space for dance. Her goals as an educator for each of her students are to increase their physical, social, emotional, and mental well-being as well as to facilitate creative play, inspire and build confidence. She is passionate about Brain-Compatible Dance Education, the BrainDance, and Anne Green Gilbert's curriculum for dance education.
