Parent Education Award Winners 2015
The Parent Education faculty is pleased to announce this year's Val Donato Award winners: Emily Bradley and Elaine Webster! This year's nominees also included Mary Ann Abbott, Dawn Carlson, Shanti Connors, Beth Goss, Tania Hino, Jean Ward, and Betty Williams. Since the award was initiated in 2007, many of the Parent Education Instructors have been recognized for their excellence in teaching and building community for children, families and teachers through our various classes. Parent education programs help students become more effective and satisfied in their role by helping them understand their child’s behavior, by encouraging them to recognize developmentally appropriate activities, by assisting them in acquiring valuable information in areas which affect the welfare of the “whole child,” and by teaching them methods to help their children develop responsible behavior. Funding for the award is available through the Education Fund at North Seattle College.
Cesily Crowser Memorial Homeless Family Support Fund
The Parent Education Program has had a successful year with our classes serving families who are homeless and transitioning out of homelessness. Much thanks to our instructors, Emily Bradley, Alysa Reid, Mika McAfee and Marjon Heru for taking on the task of creating an innovative way for our program to reach out to families to provide parenting education and support. We have served families at Sacred Heart Shelter, Mary's Place, Bianca's Place and Brettler Place during this academic year; thanks to generous donations and a grant.
In order to continue this innovative model, we are fundraising for the coming academic year. We have set up a fund with our college's foundation, the Education Fund, titled the Cesily Crowser Memorial Homeless Family Support Fund. If you or your co-op class would like to make a donation, please follow the link below.
