Special Classes for 2014-2015

1. Online FAM 180 Class

Special Topics in Parent Education is relevant to those with children in their lives. Parents, teachers, caregivers, early childhood providers & others seeking to share, discuss, and learn with each other about topics relating to child growth and development. Different topics covered quarterly in this 5 credit class taught by North Instructors Mara Mulcahy and Shanti Connors. 2. Family University

North's Parent Education Program is excited to continue this partnership with Seattle Public Schools. This class is designed for parents with children of any age in the Seattle Public School system, with a goal of increasing their knowledge and skills in working with both their children and their children's schools to produce healthy, well-educated and college-ready children. 3. Avoid Emotional Meltdowns: Help Kids Deal with Disappointment

Elizabeth Crary, well-known parenting education author and educator, is offering her popular class on helping kids learn to deal with disappointment Spring Quarter, 2015. This class is designed to help parents gain skills and teach concrete strategies to their children, ages 1-8 years old, to deal with their feelings constructively. This 2 credit class meets Wednesdays, 7:00-9:30pm, April 15-May 20, in North Seattle College Instruction Building room 3416. Sharing Nature with your Children

Spring Quarter PAC Lecture

Sharing Nature with your Children is free and open to the public. Julie Tubbs Luthy, Naturalist will present a night filled with fun activities and nature tidbits that will amaze you and your children on April 27th from 7-8:30pm at Faith Lutheran Church Social Hall, 8208 18th Ave NE. Register Online for Parent Ed Classes

Parent Education Students are expected to register online. The Parent Ed Program operates on the Seattle Public School schedule rather than the NSCC Quarterly Schedule. Talk with your Parent Education Instructor to find out more about the process and registration deadlines.

How to Join a Co-op:

  1. Find out how co-ops work.
  2. Decide which schools might be right for your family.
  3. Understand the enrollment process
  4. Contact the parent co-ordinator to take the next step.

NSC's Co-operative Preschools:

provide parent and early education for families with children from infancy to Pre-K.

Schools are located in North Seattle and differ from traditional preschools in that they are run by parents who work in association with the class teacher and the North Seattle College program.

The preschools are very popular and provide a community of support for children and their families.
