The Parent Education Program was delighted to give out two Val Donato Awards for excellence in parent education teaching this year – one to Cesily Crowser in memory of her many contributions during her 7 years of teaching FT in the Parent Ed Program, including coordination of the program as well during her last year. Cesily made many lasting contributions to the program, including developing partnerships with the Aridell Mitchell Teen Parents Shelter, Northgate Elementary School and Seattle Public Schools, with the Family Connectors University Class. The financial award goes to the fund set up for her children's education.
The second award went to Beth Goss, a part-time priority hire instructor who has been with the program for 12 years. Beth was nominated multiple times by her students, children's teacher in a parent cooperative, and child care center director she works with, and all of them provided detailed descriptions of her excellence in teaching and communication skills. Beth also works as a parent educator at Swedish Hospital, with a background of over 20 years of early learning teaching and training. Congratulations to these instructors and their families, and much thanks to everyone who took the time to nominate a parent education instructor, which included a total of 8 instructors this year.
